Arima Onsen is located close to the city of Kobe while being surrounded by an abundance of nature, and welcomes many visitors as the hot-spring retreat of Kansai.
There was an old legend that the Taiko (Hideyoshi Toyotomi) had a bath house at Arima Onsen, and when the great earthquake destroyed Gokuraku-ji Temple in January 1995, under the kitchen there were discovered to be 400-year-old roof tiles, tea utensils, and remnants of bathtubs and a garden, apparently part of the Yunoyama Goten made by Hideyoshi. The Taiko-no-yu Museum is a facility exhibiting relics of unearthed bathtubs, excavated items, and the history and culture of Arima Onsen, loved so much by the Taiko.
